Cannabis Travel Guide: How to Travel Smart, Safe & Elevated
There’s something about summer that calls for a little more freedom. Longer days, open roads, spontaneous plans, and leaning into the good vibes. And if cannabis is part of your lifestyle, having a cannabis travel guide can make all the difference—it’s not just about bringing it along, it’s about curating experiences that feel elevated, intentional, and honestly… a little more fun.
This summer, it’s all about leaning into what feels intentional, elevating adventures, and staying smart, safe, and respectful wherever you go. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a full-on adventure, we hope to come along with you. Our friends Gene Check, Jay Selthofner, and Jessica Struzik created The Stoners Travel Guide, the ultimate reference for anyone looking to enjoy cannabis while traveling. This is a beyond helpful resource in an industry that still suffers from many stigmas. After all, having a “get away” is supposed to help you decompress and melt away your worries… let us assist in doing just that.
Traveling with Cannabis: What You Need to Know
First things first, know before you go. Cannabis laws still vary widely depending on where you are, so doing a little research ahead of time is key. Some places are fully recreational, others are medical-only, and some still prohibit it altogether.
Avoid flying with products unless you fully understand TSA guidelines and local laws.
And keep everything sealed, labeled, and out of reach when driving.
Think of it like this: the smoother your setup, the smoother your trip. Knowing the area, knowing the laws, and physically being prepared for any emergency, especially when traveling on the road, is the upmost important. This is one of the best pieces of advice our featured authors have!
Packing for a Cannabis-Friendly Trip
Traveling like a stoner isn’t about overpacking, it’s about packing with intention. It’s choosing pieces that elevate your experience without weighing you down, curating a kit that fits seamlessly into your journey instead of complicating it. When you travel this way, every item has a purpose, and every moment feels a little more dialed in.
Think of it less like packing for a trip and more like setting the tone for the kind of experience you want to have. Whether you’re chasing sunsets, exploring a new city, or getting lost on a quiet trail, the right essentials can enhance the moment that much more.
Start with the basics, no overwhelm:
- A low-profile, smell-proof bag to keep things discreet and organized
- Pre-rolls or a dry herb vape for easy, no-fuss sessions
- Edibles for smooth, on-the-go enjoyment without drawing attention
- A small cleaning kit (because a harsh hit is not it)
- Hydration
When everything has its place, you spend less time fumbling and more time actually enjoying where you are.
And here’s a pro tip that seasoned cannabis travelers and our authors swear by: edibles are a game-changer. They’re perfect for flights, long drives, or extended hikes where stopping to smoke isn’t always practical. They offer a slower, more controlled experience that can carry you through hours of exploration. Just be mindful of your dosing and timing. Start low, know your tolerance, and give it time to do its magic.
At the end of the day, a great cannabis travel experience is about intention, comfort, and awareness. It’s about creating space to fully experience your surroundings while staying present in your body and mind. Pack light, pack smart, and let the journey unfold naturally.
Make It an Experience, Not Just a Trip
The difference between a regular vacation and a “stoner trip” is intention.
Instead of just going somewhere, think about how you want to feel when you’re there.
- Nature lovers: National parks, scenic trails, lakeside sunsets
- City explorers: Art walks, live music, food scenes, late-night wandering
- Chill seekers: Beach towns, cabins, cozy Airbnbs with a view
Cannabis can heighten sensory experiences, so lean into places where that matters. Think about exploring textures, flavors, music, and views; the possibilities are endless!
As said by Gene Check, one of the authors of The Stoner’s Travel Guide, “I feel that cannabis consumers have a different attitude towards life and travel. I would like to create a community for like-minded travelers.” There’s something undeniably unique about the way cannabis consumers move through the world; it’s slower, more intentional, and rooted in experience over urgency. Travel becomes less about checking boxes and more about soaking in moments: the golden hour at a new destination, the laughter shared over a perfectly rolled joint, the quiet appreciation of nature, food, music, and culture. This mindset naturally draws people together, creating an unspoken bond between those who value connection, curiosity, and presence. Building a community for like-minded travelers isn’t just about where you go…it’s about how you go, who you meet along the way, and the shared understanding that the journey is meant to be savored.
Cannabis-Friendly Destinations to Put on Your Radar
If you’re planning your Summer 2026 lineup, here are some cannabis-friendly destinations worth exploring:
- Denver – A classic for a reason. Dispensaries, lounges, and easy access to the mountains
- Wisconsin – Midwest views, The Great Lakes, and home to some of our 9 locations
- Phoenix – Year-round warmth, desert views, and thriving cannabis scene
- Los Angeles – Rich cannabis culture meets beaches, food, and entertainment
- Portland – Laid-back vibes, craft everything, and beautiful nature
Each of these places offers something unique, but they all share one thing: they welcome and support responsible cannabis consumers. There are endless possibilities and places to adventure in the cannabis culture. The Stoner’s Travel Guide, created with passion by Gene, Jay, and Jessica, allows those adventures to be that much more laid-back and takes much of the thinking out of the equation. Luckily, it’s not too tough to track a copy down. We carry them at each of our Ignite Dispensary locations and would love to hook you up with the guide and some goodies for your next adventure.
One of Gene and Jessica’s favorite places to travel is the Driftless Area, located near Valton, the Upper Western region of Wisconsin. As said by Jessica, “It’s gorgeous. The pictures we took for that chapter are my favorites, too. One of the coolest places we visited in The Driftless is Ernest Hupeden’s Painted Forest. I highly recommend you stick around and listen to the whole story of the building. It’s wild.” Most of the Northern parts of the US were shaped and flattened by glaciers from the last Ice Age. But the Driftless Area, covering parts of Western Wisconsin, was mysteriously untouched by those glaciers and offers a very unique landscape. The rich history, stunning views, and stories of the past make this a wonderful stop to add to your list!
Hemp Cafés & Elevated Spaces
One of the coolest trends heading into 2026? Cannabis-adjacent social spaces.
Think:
- Hemp cafés with infused drinks
- CBD mocktail bars
- Cannabis-friendly lounges and events
- Yoga + cannabis wellness experiences
- Art + cannabis classes
Places like The Woods WeHo in Hollywood and Smoke and Mirrors Lounge in Las Vegas are reshaping what it means to gather around cannabis. They’re opening the door to something bigger…bringing people together in spaces rooted in peace, acceptance, and a shared appreciation for the plant.
It’s not just about consumption anymore; it’s about connection.
The Real Vibe: Presence
Traveling like a stoner isn’t about being high 24/7.
It’s about slowing down.
Laughing more.
Tasting your food.
Watching the sunset a little longer than you normally would.
It’s about turning ordinary moments into something uniquely memorable.
Your Go-To Cannabis Travel Guide for Summer
