Are you curious about trying delta-8 THC***, but not sure what to expect? You’re not alone. This relative newcomer to the scene is quickly gaining popularity for its milder, legal high, but taking it is not the same as consuming whole cannabis or CBD products. The effects of delta-8 are slightly different, and how to dose with it may take some experimentation, especially if you are new to working with cannabinoids.
Delta-8 THC is somewhat similar to “regular” THC (delta-9), the compound responsible for the intoxicating feeling of cannabis products. But because the chemical structure is marginally different, it interacts with the body differently. Many people who are familiar with the feeling of delta-9 THC say that delta-8 offers a lighter, milder, and “more functional” high. Others report getting similar feelings of euphoria, relaxation, or symptom relief, without the same intensity of side effects like paranoia or anxiety.
Consuming delta-8 THC, either through eating infused edibles, taking tinctures or oils, or smoking Hemp flower that’s been treated with it, will get you high, but in a way that is legal and potentially less powerful than with delta-9 THC. This is one of the reasons why delta-8 is becoming popular, as people are searching for a smoother high with some possible health benefits, too. As a cannabinoid derived from Hemp, delta-8 may improve sleep, reduce stress, relieve muscle aches, stimulate appetite, reduce nausea, and more.
For regular users, delta-8 THC will feel milder than regular THC, and the dosing is a bit different. The effects typically kick in around 15 to 20 minutes if smoked or vaped, and 1 to 2 hours if consumed as an edible. Here’s a generally recommended dosing guide:
- Beginner/low tolerance: 5 to 15 mg per use
- Intermediate/moderate tolerance: 15 to 45 mg per use
- Advanced/high tolerance: 45 to 150 mg per use
When in doubt, start slowly. You can always take a little more later, but you can’t go backward!
