How Edibles Work: A Quick Breakdown
Edibles, like our new infused seasonings, offer a totally different experience than smoking, vaping, or even using tinctures. That’s because the way your body processes cannabinoids depends entirely on how they’re consumed. When THC is inhaled, it enters the bloodstream quickly through the lungs. But when you eat THC, your digestive system gets involved, changing not only the timing of the effects, but also their strength and duration.
There are three main types of edibles, and understanding the difference can help you better predict how you’ll feel.
1. Standard Infused Edibles
Standard THC-infused edibles, like baked goods or traditional canna-butter recipes, take the longest to kick in. This is the classic “wait an hour and see” edible experience.
- Onset Time: 45–90 minutes
- Why: Your digestive system must break down the edible and send it to your liver. There, THC is converted into a powerful metabolite called 11-Hydroxy-THC, which interacts with your endocannabinoid system.
- Pro Tip: Eat a small meal with fat before consuming a standard edible. Cannabinoids bind to fats, which helps your body absorb and process the THC more efficiently.
2. Water-Soluble Edibles
Water-soluble edibles are faster-acting and are becoming more common in drinks, powders, and fast-dissolving products.
- Onset Time: 20–40 minutes
- Why: These edibles are absorbed more efficiently by the stomach and intestinal lining, as well as partially through the liver. This means quicker and more predictable effects.
3. Nano-Dosed Edibles
Nano-emulsified THC breaks down cannabinoids into smaller particles, allowing for faster absorption through mucous membranes.
- Onset Time: 10–20 minutes
- Why: Nano edibles bypass most of the liver and are absorbed directly through the mouth, stomach, and intestines. This is ideal for those who want faster, more controlled results.
Understanding Your Dose
Each serving of seasoning (5g) contains 5mg of THC, and each 50g jar holds 50mg of THC total. When using these blends, keep portion size in mind, especially if other parts of your meal are also infused. If you’re serving others, always let guests know the food contains THC. These meals are not for children, and leftovers should be stored safely out of reach.
